Andrew T. Long Papers, 1876-1943 (bulk 1920-1930)

Andrew Theodore Long of Iredell County, N.C., was a rear admiral in the United States Navy. The collection includes naval correspondence and social and personal letters of Andrew T. Long. Most papers are from the 1920s, while Long was director of naval intelligence, chief of staff for the commander of the Atlantic Fleet, chief of the Bureau of Navigation, and member of the General Board of the Navy. They include routine letters from high ranking American military and civilian officials. Andrew Theodore Long was born on April 6, 1866, Iredell County, North Carolina. He received his commission as Ensign in the U.S. Navy on July 1, 1889, and achieved the rank of rear admiral on September 15, 1918. Long died on May 21, 1946. From the description of Long, Andrew T.
